GENERAL QUESTIONS

  • The only way to apply for an open position at the Duluth Police Department is by completing the online application. Click HERE for the application.

  • For most applicants, depending on the complexity of the applicant’s background, the process will typically take from two to four months.

  • You must be 20 years of age at the time of submitting your application. There is no maximum age restriction.

  • Absolutely! You become a paid employee of the Duluth Police Department once you complete the entire hiring process and will be paid at the current rate for a Police Officer.

  • The Duluth Police Department sends their police recruits to the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC). GPSTC Academy classes typically begin around the start of each quarter throughout the year.

  • According to Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council rules, candidates wishing to attend Basic Law Enforcement Training after December 31, 2020 will be required to pass the Physical Agility Test (PAT) before they are admitted into the academy.

    Physical Agility Test (PAT) Course Description:

    The course measures a total of 870 feet (290 yards/265.2 meters) (half-court basketball court).

    There is a time limit of two minutes six seconds (2:06)–time starts on candidate’s movement from the starting line and ends when they pass the finish line.

    The course consists of a series of nine interspersed individual tasks, arranged in a continuous format that may be viewed as being essential (physical) job tasks for law enforcement training:

    • Running

    • Jumping (low hurdle)

    • Climbing stairs

    • Low crawling

    • Jumping (broad-type)

    • Climbing a fence (chain-link/four feet)

    • Climbing through a window

    • Moving/dragging a weight (150 lbs.)

    • Changing direction on the run

  • Yes, we do! We accept In-State, Out-of-State, and Military Police transfers (From Qualified Military Police Units). For Georgia POST Certified Officers looking to lateral to Duluth Police Department, please complete an application to begin the hiring process.
